KATRINA Maguire has been hairdressing since she was just 14 and opened her own salon - Katz Hair Salon - when she was just 20.
Now aged 25 Katrina has recently moved premises to Katrina Maguire Hair and Beauty at 16 North Street..

Whilst remaining in North Street, thanks to bigger premises Katrina is now able to add a beautician’s service to her previously thriving hairdr
essing salon.

Katrina Maguire Hair and Beauty caters for a wide range of ages, though the business is particularly popular with teenagers.

The recent addition of beautican, Natalie Millar, to the top floor of the premises, has allowed Katrina to offer skin care, spray tanning, manicures, facials and pedicures as well as body piercing to her customers.

Katrina has been working in hairdressing for the last 11 years and is qualified to NVQ Level 3 standard. She works alongside five other stylists and the salon has recently been awarded four stars in the Good Salon Guide.

“The new premises are great. The fact that we now offer beauty care as well as hairdressing is a big asset to us,” she said.

“We cater for all ages - young right through to very elderly. Young trends and colouring would be our specialities and now we’ve got the beauty side of things covered as well.”

Of her carrer choice Katrina said: “I’ve always been interested since a young age. I used to sit and watch everything being done and I always knew that’s what I wanted to be.”

She’s now planning to do her A-Awards which will allow her to teach the trade to others.

Of the changes in the trade over the year Katrina said: “Perming is now out the window, you find people want more colours and more whacky colours.

“Customers want more panels of colours rather than the single natural shades.”

Katrina also confessed she’s one of those lucky people who enjoys her job: “I enjoy colouring and enjoy chatting with my customers.”
