RECENTLY come to live in the Craigavon area, Barry Thompson describes himself as 'a youngish man' who works as the musical input into Friendly Faces, the Portadown based children's entertainment company.
"This is where I met my wife, " said Barry. "Not only did I fall in love with her, I fell in love with Lurgan and Portadown and decided to come and live here after our wedding in July.
"My job in my eyes is one of the best in the world," he said. "I'm a self employed entertainer. From the age of seven this is all I ever wanted to do - strange at seven years old but presenting and performing just bowled me over.
"I have been blessed with life and have worked alongside some of the great names in entertainment. Wedding entertainment is my main income followed by Friendly Faces and the fantastic shows we provide for children in shopping centres all over Northern Ireland."
Barry says his aim is to help promote entertainment in the Craigavon area. "In case people can't put my name to my face I'm the guy who helped switch on the lights at Brownlow and Portadown," he said.
"I just want to be able to settle into the area and make a name for myself for the right reasons. The area has great potential for success and I want to be part of it."
Although now living locally, Barry was born in Ballymoney and is also very proud of his home place.
"God plays a very big part in my life," he said. "He saved me from illness and probably death so I must repay Him to the best of my ability. Can I dedicate this to the reason for me joining the community?
If you could trade places with anyone else for the day who would it be and why?
Santa! You get to meet so many people and put smiles on faces at Christmas.
Describe your perfect day...
My perfect day really was my wedding day. I've played at so many weddings in my life and when the real thing comes along it's just amazing. I would advise anyone who's thinking about it to just go and do it. From the build up to the big day, honeymoon and starting home, it's all fantastic.
Have you had any regrets in life?
Tough question. I love life and I know through my beliefs that it has been a planned life by God so I suppose no, I'm happy so far. Who am I to say that God made my life wrong?
If you could change your job what would you do instead?
If I could change my job, I would probably work in media - radio or perhaps TV. But born an entertainer, I will probably die an entertainer.
Party animal or couch potato?
I am definitely not a party animal - only when I perform on stage for others in a family way. It's all clean good fun to make people laugh. I'm definitely not a slouch spud either as I need to be on the go all the time.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
In 10 years time, 15 children. Only joking. I wanted to see the shock on my mother in law's face and scare the life out of the wife.
