FROM Jane Barbour (via e-mail):
I was very disappointed to read the article regarding 'Lurgan College' in last week's 'MAIL'l.

The comments were generally unhelpful and unfounded. As a teacher I can only speak with very positive comments regarding the College. After speaking t
o present pupils they reassured me that they enjoy the environment, feel relaxed in the surrounding area, and certainly would not feel that they are ever 'running the gauntlet' of North Lurgan.

The quality of Education provided by the establishment was also questioned, having taught in several schools, and knowing the excellent results achieved year after year by Lurgan College, I can say without reservation that it provides an excellent education.

It takes years to plan and to implement a new school build and to come so close and risk the future of so many young people in Lurgan would be criminal and short sighted. Perhaps the people who made these comments are not aware that funding is directly associated with this site and to move Lurgan College would greatly delay any progress with the Department of Education.

In response to concerns regarding Craigavon Senior High, the funding for Lurgan College is money being provided to the whole community and we see this as the beginning and not the end of funding for the whole of the Lurgan Education System.
