Markethill set for 22nd Fair Day

Plans are coming together for the Old Time Markethill Fair Day, which takes place this year on 20 August.

The event, which is organised by Markethill Horse & Pony Driving Club Ltd, is in its 22nd year and is already shaping up to be a jam-packed day of activity.

At the monthly meeting of Markethill Horse & Pony Driving Club Ltd members heard the event will open with a parade of horse-drawn vehicles, period costumes from the 1900s, and a host of entertainment.

The Indians Showband will be on the main stage from 3 to 5pm, while John Glenn and The Stranglers will be outside the Victoria Bar, and Stephen Beckett will provide music in Keady Street.

The Fair will feature a vehicle parade of tractors, cars, motor bikes and lorries; harness making; timber work; a pig on the spit; Irish dancing; patchwork quilting; horses, ponies and donkeys; and an array of tasty food.
