A team of local dancers of primary school age came out on top in a competition where most of the competitors were adults.

The girls from Fiona Bawn-Thompson’s FADD studios took part in a hip-hop competition in Drogheda.

Fiona said: “I brought kids aged between four and 19 down from Lurgan, Craigavon, Portadown and Donaghcloney. The kids I entered in the team section were aged between 8 and 11 (most aged 8) and were dancing in an open age category against senior (adult) crews from all over, including a team from a well known school in Belfast who were on ‘Got To Dance’ finals a few years back.

“Our wee Under 12 crew danced their wee hearts out and ended up coming first place out of 18 very strong teams. Needless to say we were (and still are) ecstatic about this.

“The kids involved have committed so much time and energy (often missing out on birthday parties to attend) into rehearsals. And their hard work has paid off.

“One of the eight year olds in the crew came first in the team, first in her solo and first in her pair dance. And it wasn’t an easy competition, with up to 70 solo dancers in each category.”

FADD are performing this Saturday in Lurgan town centre from 12 noon until 2pm as part of the pop up events through Discover Craigavon. They are also Dancing in Portadown next week, followed by a performance at Lord Lurgan Memorial Park.
