Eight pun-slingers gathered in Just The Tonic club to slug it out over three rounds, rap-battle style, hosted by London comic, Lee Nelson.

In the first quarter final, Sean was up against Scottish punster, Leo Kearse, someone he tipped as a favourite going into the competition.

Sean said: “We were sent an email with our list of 17 topics to write jokes on, plus a list of all the acts we could face on the night. I checked out a few videos on YouTube and realised there and then that getting far in this competition was going to be no easy task”.

In an extremely tight battle, Sean made it through to the semi final, facing another favourite in the form of Glenn Moore. After overcoming Glenn, Sean was put head to head with one of the quickest, sharpest acts on the scene, Darren Walsh. It wasn’t to be in the end and Darren walked off with the title, leaving Sean with absolutely no regrets.

Sean said: “To share a bill with some of these guys is fantastic for me and I’m sure we all learnt a lot throughout the competition. I spent 10 days prior writing for topics I knew nothing about including Shakespeare and King Richard III but it’s gave me so much more confidence, so much material and a profile boost.

One pun in particular from Sean really impressed the judges...

My computer’s got a Miley Virus. It’s stopped twerking.

Great work, Sean!
