This event was the opportunity for current and previous long serving members of staff to come together to acknowledge 25 years of education at Craigavon Senior High School.

The guest speaker was Mrs Thompson, president of the Ulster Teachers Union and Vice Principal of Hart Memorial Primary School, Portadown. Mrs Thompson formed one of the first cohort of students at Craigavon Senior High in 1995 when the school opened.

“Time has not changed our ethos or values or focus we have for our young people and the legacy that staff before me have developed lives on in our daily practice and within our communities,” said principal Ms Ruth Harkness,

She continued by praising the students for their hard work and excellent exam results. “Exam results in August 2019 where tremendous,” said Ms Harkness. “More students left CSHS with five good GCSE pass grades than any other year 12 cohort in the school’s history, this measure increased by 22% from 2017. 64% of students achieved the key measure of achieving 5 A*- C grades. We had over 2500 entries across 307 candidates with over 200 students achieving at least 5 GCSE A*-C grades and 113 students achieving 5 A*-C grades including Maths and English.

“We have seen increases in grades achieved in virtually every subject area in the school. With particular excellences in English, Business studies, RE, Child development, Science, Art, Food Nutrition, ICT, Sport.

“As always the actual results only give us half a story, they do not give us any information about the support, dedication and inspiration from teachers or the stressful situations at home where students are attempting to balance busy lives. I would like to ask all students to show their appreciation for staff and parents for all of their support.”
