The magazine aimed at novice drivers, giving advice and information on learning to drive, passing the driving test, buying and insuring a car and staying safe on the road, has been published by New Driver Safety Ambassador, a community interest company, which for several years and pre-Covid 19 was responsible for over 120 road safety presentations in over 90 schools per annum – at total audience of around 10,000 students per year.

New Driver Safety Ambassador Limited in compliance with new regulations arising from the pandemic have decided to replace the physical presentation with an online one to protect staff and students.

New Driver’s aim is to educate all new drivers and passengers on making good motoring decisions.

The PCSP are also supporting the New Driver online Safe Motoring presentation and the ‘Share the Road to Zero’ pledge.

By watching the online presentation and making the Safe Motoring Pledge, the student will be automatically entered into a monthly draw for £100 prize.

Also, if they correctly answer five multiple-choice questions, the student will be entered into a final draw where 10 people are selected to enter a “touch-the-car” competition to win a car. Further information can be found at www.newdriverni.com/safemotoring

Stephen Savage, Project Manager at New Driver Safety Ambassadors, said : “The programme has run for over six years now and is growing each year, but unfortunately Covid 19 meant that we had to think outside the box in getting young people to participate in the programme this year. As a result, our sponsors CRASH Services and JMK Solicitors sponsored a prize of a new car to one lucky participant.

“Too many young people are still losing their lives or being seriously injured on the roads across Northern Ireland. We want to see these figures reduce every year.”

Councillor Paul Duffy, Chairman of Armagh Banbridge Craigavon PCSP, said: “The N3W DR1V3R magazine is packed with useful information for young people in this borough who are at the stage of learning to drive or have just passed their driving test.

“This is an exciting time for these young people, however it can also be daunting and by reading this magazine so many of their questions are answered.

“As parents we all want our children and other road users to be safe whilst driving or as passengers”.

The programme is completely free for schools as funding is provided by DFI Road Safety Grant Scheme, Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon PCSP, and by corporate sponsors including, CRASH Services, Hankook Tyres, AB&C Insurance, DriveTech UK, and JMK Solicitors.
