Proprietors, Lawrence & Bernadette Moore and family were saddened that this year they had to cancel all 2020 bookings due to restrictions. They had the cottage prepped entirely with lights set up, and of course Santa himself lined up to greet local families.

The Moore Family turned this negative situation into one of positivity and kindly decided to switch on Santa’s lights on the designated weekends leading up to Christmas with proceeds raised in aid of Southern Area Hospice Services, then also Life & Time.

A grand total of £27,014.69 & €134.53 was presented to Southern Area Hospice on Tuesday by Grainne Marron, Shea & Conor Marron and Bernadette & Lawrence Moore. This money raised will help Hospice to continue to provide much needed care to patients and give support to their families this year. A further £4385.81 was also donated to Life & Time.

The Southern Area Hospice have thanked the Moore Family for running the fantastic event and also every single person who visited Santa’s Cottage this year and made a donation in aid of Southern Area Hospice Services.

Lizzie McCullough, SAHS Fundraising Officer, said: “We have been absolutely blown away by the generosity of both our community and those who volunteered at the cottage. Each year at the hospice, we need to fundraise £3.1million and the impact of Covid-19, has proven this task to be very challenging.”

Dr Henry Mcloughlin, on behalf of Life & Time, said “We are delighted by the fundraising achievement of this remarkable community group including Santa, who when faced with a very difficult winter, managed to turn the situation to the advantage of the community in such a remarkable way. We at Life and Time are very grateful for their donation and it will enable us to continue our work within the community”.

The Moore Family have also extended thanks to each and every one who volunteered and helped out to make the event possible and such a success.
