SDLP Cllr Eamon McNeill said: “I’ve been working on Bannview from 2017 and especially in the past few months.”

Cllr McNeill welcomed the new arrangements which are in the pipeline for the troubled GP surgery.

It was revealed last week that plans are in the pipeline to bring Bannview Medical Practice under the umbrella of Riverside surgery which will be the lead andmanaging team.

Previously, since a number of GPs left the Bannview Practice, the surgery has been managed by the Southern Health Trust.

Cllr McNeill said: “ I’ve had numerous complaints from patients – at one stage a few weeks ago I got numerous calls daily.

“I’ve had meetings with the Chief Executive of the Southern Health Trust and have been working closely with the Trust Director responsible for Bannview.

“I have lodged a number of complaints on behalf of patients with him and they are currently being dealt with,” he said.

“I’ve also had many discussions with the Practice Manager and the Trusts Governance Administrator.

“MLA Dolores Kelly has also worked very closely on this issue – meeting Trust, the CE, BMA, Health Minister and other governing bodies responsible.

“It has been a very worrying and awful experience for the patients from not being able to get repeat prescriptions authorised to out of date tests packs issued to no information on Covid Vaccinations.”

“Hopefully the new Management structure will alleviate all the problems,” said Cllr McNeill.
