A fifth form pupil at Lismore, Seana McDonald, was crowned Craigavon’s Pop Idol in 2002.

It was a star studded night at St Anthony’s Centre, Craigavon, as the best of the borough’s young talent battled it out.

The centre was packed to the rafters and organisers estimated that around 200 people had to be turned away.

After auditions the initial entry of 120 was whittled down to 30 and the BBC’s John Daly was compere for the night.

It was a difficult task for the judges but on the night the winner was Seana McDonald, from Derrymacash, with her rendition of ‘Hero’.
