Seventeen year old Roisin McGibbon from Lurgan grabbed the limelight for a short time during the visit of Pope John Paul to Ireland in 1979.
She was chosen to sing a solo part at the Mass in Drogheda.
She sang ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’ in Irish.
Afterwards the Pope thanked her and shook hands with her, a personal touch which crowned a day she would never forget.
A student at St Michael’s in Lurgan she travelled down with her music teacher Mr Sean Boylan who was one of the conductors of the mass choirs.
Roisin is pictured here with Mr Boylan rehearsing for the big occasion.
