Approval for new 82 bed hotel for Lurgan

A new 82 bedroom hotel may be in the pipeline for Lurgan after planning permission was given for the second time.

Popular entrepreneur Pat Hanna was granted permission for the hotel by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council.

Expected to cost around £5m, the new complex has plans for parking and associated facilities.

The new build is planned for the Lough Road close to the current site of the service station and the M1 motorway.

Planning approval had been given before for the hotel however it lapsed earlier this year.

The renewal application, with firm HPA Architecture, was approved last week.

The site had previously been up for sale with an asking price of just £350,000.

Mr Hanna said hundreds of new jobs could be created in its construction.

Also when the hotel is up and running around 50 new jobs could be created.

“It would be a great asset to Lurgan and the surrounding area and a popular place, particularly with easy access to the motorway and the airport,” he said.

“It is located at a very convenient location and just half an hour from the airport.”

Mr Hanna has been a successful businessman for decades and currently runs the high end bed and breakfast - Glenmore Manor which successful designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen said: “Glenmore is like your own hotel, with all the facilities just for you”.

Meanwhile another £5m investment has been granted permission.

A large housing development is to be built in the Silverwood area.

Plans are approved for the development which will consist of 70 houses – 38 detached and 32 semi detached.

Gilmore Developments are responsible for the construction of the site south of Kiln Lodge in the town, in close proximity to Silverwood golf course and the ski centre.

There had been one rejection to the plans, which were submitted in March 2015.
