THERE'S been a call for a foot and cycle bridge to be built over the Bann river between the Bannfoot and Columbkille.
Sinn Fin MLA John O’ Dowd said: “The ‘Craigavon Cycle Strategy’ produced by Craigavon Council Forum identified the need for a Cycle/Foot bridge across the River Bann as a necessary element for improving the Lough Shore trail and promoting tourism and leisure activates within Craigavon Borough.
"This report identified the Council and Lough Neagh Partnership as the lead partners in the project. I have contacted these two bodies, identified in the original report, to establish what needs to be done to move this project forward. I have also spoken to DRD Minister Conor Murphy to ascertain whether or not Road Service has a part to play in the project.”
Mr O’ Dowd continued: “The river Blackwater has been bridged at Maghery as part of a cycle route and this cycle/foot bridge has proved very popular and is well used. The construction of a similar bridge over the Bann River between the Bannfoot and Columbkille would enhance tourism”
