When police searched the flat of a Lurgan man they found a cannabis plant growing in a bedroom cupboard, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.
Connil Rice (23), Ulster Street, Lurgan, was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 12 months, for cultivating a cannabis plant on July 11.
Concurrent one month terms, also suspended for 12 months, were imposed for possession of cannabis and possession of a class C drug, valium.
The court heard police searched the defendant’s address, a one bedroom flat, and a cannabis plant was found growing in a bedroom cupboard.
A small amount of herbal cannabis was found along with a quantity of tablets.
The cannabis plant was valued at around £500 while the value of the cannabis was £20.
Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said the drugs were for Rice’s personal use only.
Rice has learned his lesson, added Mr Ingram.
Later in the court bail was set at £100 for appeal against the sentences.
