When his friend had been drinking a 22-year-old man drove him home but was stopped by police who discovered he did not have insurance.
Regimantas Paulauskas, whose address was given as Albert Street, Lurgan, was fined £235 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for driving uninsured on March 29 this year.
He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given six points.
For not having a driving licence he was fined £100.
The court heard that at 3.40am a police mobile patrol in Queen Street, Lurgan, saw a car turn into Flush Place on the wrong side of the road.
They stopped it and an insurance check revealed that the defendant, who was driving, was not insured to drive the vehicle.
A solicitor representing Paulauskas said that a friend of his had been drinking and he took the opportunity to drive him home.
He added that his client did want to obtain a licence in the proper fashion.
