Local independent retailers are being given the chance to expand their online offering with a new ‘click and collect’ scheme.
The newly launched Click & Collect Pilot Programme aims to assist independent retailers in Lurgan and Portadown to offer a ‘Click and Collect’ purchasing service to their customers which will drive retail sales and contribute to an increase in footfall in the Borough’s urban centres.
The programme has been designed in response to the dramatic growth in recent years of online trading within the retail sector and will identify new selling opportunities for local businesses.
Speaking at the programme launch, Cllr Darryn Causby, Lord Mayor of Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council commented:
“Over recent years, the independent retail sector has been affected by the rise of Internet trading, however, recent research has indicated that where High Street retailers have offered a ‘Click and collect’ service, those businesses, together with surrounding retailers have benefitted with increases in sales of at least 15%.
“With that in mind, we are delighted to offer this new initiative across our City and Town Centres.”
The programme will include workshops led by experts in the field of digital trading, one to one mentoring and development of tailored action plans for each participating retailer.
There are places for over 40 independent retailers across Armagh City and Banbridge, Lurgan and Portadown town centres and the vision is to create a new innovative sales channel and financial benefit to the local economy.
