Concerns have been expressed about the demolition of the old Fultons factory at Ardboe Drive - with an upsurge in rats being predicted.
Residents in the area had also expressed concerns about possible asbestos contamination but assurances have been given all safety regulations in this regard are being adhered to.
Council Environmental Health officers have visited the scene and Councillor Carla Lockhart said: “All asbestos regulations are being adhered to and there is no risk to residents.
“The external building will not be demolished at present but the interior is going to be stripped away. Please note there may be increased vermin therefore we have asked for additional baiting to take place and also we have assistance from Council in this regard should you require it.”
