Ulster Unionist Councillor, Colin McCusker, has congratulated Queen Elizabeth on attaining the record of becoming the longest reigning monarch of the United Kingdom.
Some time after 5.30pm today (September 9), Elizabeth will become the longest-reigning monarch in British history, having surpassed Queen Victoria’s record of 63 years, seven months and two days.
Mr McCusker said: “As a loyal subject of her majesty, and as an elected representative, on behalf of the people I represent, I wish to congratulate Queen Elizabeth on reaching this significant milestone.
“The Queen is as popular as ever and it comes as no surprise that seven out of 10 people in Great Britain are in favour of the monarchy.
“We have all witnessed wonderful scenes in recent years when the Queen has celebrated Golden and Diamond Jubilees, with huge crowds gathering outside Buckingham Palace in the nation’s capital city.
“Queen Elizabeth is an excellent role model for everyone in terms of her dedication and service to her people, as well as her commitment to her family, and her effort is an inspiration to the thousands of volunteers who give of their time to improve their communities.
“It is right and fitting that the ABC Council is marking the landmark, and I commend all those involved in the tea party events to be held at the Civic Centre.”
