A Craigavon actress is looking forward to a homecoming show after treading the boards around the world as a dachshund.
Having graduated in Acting from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, 24-year-old Orlaith Larkham from Pinebank joined Nonsenseroom Productions.
Her first production, Hairy Maclary saw her on the road for three years.
“I’ve been with the show since 2010.
“I’ve been round the UK twice, then on to Sydney Opera House and New Zealand. We also did the Edinburgh Fringe. I’m in Scotland now for rehearsals ahead of the Irish part of the tour.”
Part of the tour involved a seven-week run in Sydney Opera House.
“The run in Sydney was pretty amazing,” said Orlaith.
“It was also nice to be in New Zealand where the author of the book is from originally.
“It’s such an amazing country. I’ve enjoyed everywhere we’ve been. I just love being on tour.
“The cast are really friendly and they’ve been great company on the trip.”
Hairy Maclary is a musical based on the books of children’s author Dame Lynley Dodd.
“I play Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum,” said Orlaith.
“I’m so lucky to have been introduced to the books through the show. I’ve been getting the books for all my friends and relatives for Christmas and birthdays.”
Orlaith, a former pupil of St Joseph’s and St Mary’s, said: “The show is coming to Derry, Coleraine, Omagh and Armagh.
“It’s going to be great that family and friends are finally going to be able to see the show.
“There’ll hopefully be a lot of familiar faces in the crowd at the Market Place show and it’s good that I’ll be home for a couple of nights.”
She added: “The audience is very young, but the show relies on the parents to encourage their children to get involved. It’s very much like a panto in terms of audience participation.”
