When a patient was returned to the Bluestone unit at Craigavon hospital, staff discovered that she had herbal cannabis in her possession.
Rebecca Conlon (22), Drumsill Park, Armagh, admitted unlawful possession of a class B drug on September 2 last year.
Craigavon Magistrates Court heard that staff reported to police that a patient had entered the unit with herbal cannabis. She had been reported missing and was located at an address in Armagh.
Police were unable to speak to her at the time as she was too ill and when they spoke to her later she said: “Yes it was cannabis but I wasn’t well at the time.”
District Judge, Desmond Perry, said this was the defendant’s sixth conviction fordrugs offences and she was ‘sailing close to the wind’, adding it was nearing the time when she would be ‘sent away’ if shecontinued to use drugs.
The judge imposed an 18-month probation order with the condition she attend a drugscounselling course. He added that she should learn from it as there was medical opinion that the use of cannabis ‘scrambled your brain’.
