A 19-year-old man who only passed his driving test in June this year will have to sit it again after getting penalty points last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.
Mark Finnegan, Derryneskan Road, Portadown, was fined £150 for not having insurance on September 17 this year. He was also given six points.
Mr Brendan Hagan, representing the defendant, said his client was a young driver and the imposition of six points would have ramifications for him.
He explained that Finnegan did have insurance and thought that his mother was dealing with it but a direct debit was missed.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan said the defendant had passed his test in June and his policy was cancelled in July which was not a good start to his driving career.
Mr Hagan added that his client thought his mother was going to sort out the direct debit problem.
Finnegan will now have to re-sit his driving test.
