After having a few drinks at a friend’s house followed by a sleep a 24-year-old decided to drive home because he had to start work at 8am

But at 5am he was stopped by police and he was found to be over the drink driving limit.

Colin Paul Toomey, Parknasilla Way, Aghagallon, admitted driving with excess alcohol in breath when he appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He was fined £175 and banned for 16 months which would be reduced by four months if he completes a drink driving course.

A fine of £40 was imposed for having a defective tyre on his vehicle.

The court heard that at 5am police saw a car being driven slowly on the Drumgor West Road and it was on the central reservation.

When they stopped the car the defendant failed a breath test and an evidential test gave a reading of 108 in breath

The nearside front tyre of his vehicle was devoid of tread.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had been at a friend’s house and had taken a few drinks.

He explained that he had gone to sleep for a time and when he woke up he thought he was okay to drive.
