Defendant hit wife with a large spoon

During an argument with his wife, a 37-year- old man hit her on the arm with '˜a large spoon used in cooking'.

Ziliang Pan, of Harford Street, Portadown, admitted common assault when he appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The court heard that on February 9 this year police were made aware of a domestic incident which had taken place the previous day at the home of the defendant and his wife.

She alleged there had been a verbal argument and her husband assaulted her by hittingher on the upper arm with a large spoon used in cooking.

She also said that he struggled with her and scraped at her face.

There was bruising to the woman’s upper arm and scrapes and bruises to the right hand side ofher face.

When interviewed Pan made admissions and showed remorse, the court was informed.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that as the matter was a domestic incident she would require a pre-sentence report.

She adjourned the case until March 22 so that a report could be obtained.
