When his mother asked him to collect a car a Lurgan man did not realise he was not insured, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.
Jamie Downey (24), Gilpin Mews, Lurgan, was fined £250 and given six points for driving without insurance on April 11 this year.
The court heard he was stopped around 1am while driving in Charles Street, Lurgan, and asked to produce his insurance. On April 16 he produced a certificate of insurance which showed he was a named driver for another vehicle.
Mr Conor Downey, defending, said the vehicle was owned by Downey’s mother’s partner. He explained that the mother had been involved in a road traffic accident and was attending hospital.
Mr Downey added she phoned her son to come and collect the car. He was acting on the instigation of his mother and was oblivious to the fact he was not insured, he said.
