A 27-year-old man who tried to hide from police by running from tree to tree was found to have two different types of drugs on him when he was stopped.

Kieran Joseph Martin, Simon Community, Belfast, admitted possession of methylethylcathinone and diazepam on November 24 last year.

For each of the two offences he was fined £125 and sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for two years.

The court heard that police went to an address in Lurgan and as they were searching the area noticed someone trying to hide between trees. He was jumping from tree to tree to avoid being seen.

Two packets of white powder were found in the defendant’s trouser pocket and he also had six pills which turned out to be diazepam. A solicitor for Martin said all the items were for his own personal use.

He explained that at the time the defendant was using recreational drugs but has since stopped.

The solicitor added that Martin was originally from the Lurgan area but was residing in Belfast.
