A local councillor has appealed for preventative measures to be taken after elderly residents were woke up at four in the morning by youths rapping doors.

Residents of Hoop Hill Park in Lurgan had a fright in the early hours of Monday morning when youths proceeded to knock the flat doors in a loud and disruptive way.

Speaking on the matter Councillor Carla Lockhart said: “This was a very distressing ordeal for the residents of Hoop Hill with their doors having been knocked at around 4am in the morning.

“On speaking with a resident they said that it was a very upsetting and frightful time with residents being awoken from sleep to these loud knocks.

The DUP councillor added: “Hoop Hill is known for its friendly, peaceful and community spirit atmosphere and this has annoyed particularly the elderly residents.

“I understand that the PSNI did attend the scene after having been contacted by a resident however; it is my intention to speak with the PSNI and the NIHE about the incident and look at any preventative measures for the future.”

“I would ask anyone with any information to come forward to the PSNI and report it and also it is a reminder to us all to look out for our elderly neighbours so as to try and ensure their safety.”
