Craigavon Area Food Bank are holding a collection at local Tesco stores this weekend and are encouraging shoppers to give a little more this Christmas.
The collection will take place on Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th December, in the Lurgan, Craigavon and Portadown Tesco stores, with staff and volunteers from the Craigavon Area Food Bank on hand to help out.
“People can purchase a couple of extra items and pop them in the trolley at the front of the store,” advised Chris Leech, Chairman of Craigavon Area Food Bank.
The collection is in aid of the Trussell Trust and FareShare, which provide three days of emergency food to people in crisis who have been referred by professional agencies such as Citizen’s Advice or children’s centres. Food is distributed via a voucher system.
“We provide food for 3,500 people in Craigavon each year,” added Chris. “All of the food collected will be distributed locally. We will be on hand at the weekend with shopping lists which will give shoppers guide shoppers about which non-perishable items are needed.”
