Fourteen chasing six seats in election

Fourteen candidates will contest the Assembly election in Newry-Armagh on Thursday May 5, a constituency that has an estimated two-thirds nationalist-republican electorate.

Sinn Fein is fielding three candidates in a bid to retain its three seats, while the Ulster Unionist Party and SDLP, both defending one seat, will each have two runners. The DUP holds the sixth seat.

Candidates are: Paul Berry (Independent), Cathal Boylan (Sinn Fein), Emmet Crossan (Cannabis Is Safer Than Alcohol), Megan Fearon (Sinn Fein), William Irwin (DUP), Danny Kennedy (UUP), Alan Love (UKIP), Martin McAllister (Independent), Karen McKevitt (SDLP), Justin McNulty (SDLP), Conor Murphy (Sinn Fein), Sam Nicholson (UUP), Michael Watters (Green Party) and Craig Weir ( Alliance).

Danny Kennedy, Conor Murphy, William Irwin, Cathal Boylan and Megan Fearon are all defending their seats.

The sprawling Newry-Armagh constituency takes in a large part of Newry, Armagh, South Armagh including Keady, Newtownhamilton and Crossmaglen, as well as Tandragee, Markethill, Richhill, Poyntzpass, Loughgall, Laurelvale, Birches and Annaghmore.
