Given jail warning over court order

Given a community service order of 140 hours last year a 28-year-old only completed 21 hours, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

Jonathan Crossey, whose address was given as Pollock Drive, Lurgan, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for breaching a community service order.

Convicted of theft of June 26 last year at Craigavon court he was made the subject of a community service order to perform 140 hours unpaid work but failed to attend on July 18, August 8 and September 12 last year.

The court heard he had completed 21 hours and there were 119 hours outstanding.

A solicitor representing Crossey said he was willing to re-engage with the probation service.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the defendant’s offence was the theft of a handbag from a licensed establishment.

He adjourned the case until April 22 to give the defendant a chance to complete the order but warned him if he did not the court could impose a custodial sentence.
