A woman was targeted by a burglar posing as a man in distress, police have revealed.

They are now reminding the public to phone the emergency services if they need assistance.

Sergeant Alwyn Peters explained: “On Saturday, November 1, a man called to a house in Pinebank in an upset state. The female occupier brought the man into the house and ordered a taxi for him. She later discovered that her mobile phone had been taken.

“This lady did her best to provide help to a stranger and found herself a victim of crime.

“If you come across someone in need of assistance please phone police or the relevant emergency service. While we all like to help we have to ensure our own safety also.”
