When he was drunk a 26-year-old man ran out in front of a car and the impact left him with serious injuries including a broken thigh bone.

Sean James Hughes, Ballyoran Park, Portadown, was fined £150 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for jaywalking.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on November 21 last year at approximately 7pm a road traffic collision took place on the Lake Road, Craigavon. On arrival police noticed the defendant lying on the central marking of the road.

They spoke to the driver of the vehicle who said that a guy ran out onto the road.

Two other males were in the area and police spoke to them but both were extremely intoxicated and they said the defendant was ‘acting the c—t’ in the middle of the road.

When interviewed later he said he had consumed a large amount of alcohol and had no recollection of what happened.

A barrister representing the defendant said Hughes had gone out drinking with a friend who had vomited in a taxi and they had been put out.

He said his client had suffered a broken femur, tibia, fibula, cracked ribs and lacerations to his body.
