When he moved to live in Gilford a 23-year-old man was the victim of a number of assaults, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.
Aiden McCartan admitted assaulting two police officers on March 4 this year and criminal damage to a police cell.
At the date of the offences he was living at Dunbarton Street, Gilford, but last week’s court was told he was now living with his uncle in Banbridge.
The court heard that at 1.35am police went to an address in Gilford concerning the safety of the defendant. Because of McCartan’s demeanour and appearance they called an ambulance and he agreed to go to hospital.
But he lunged at a police officer and when he attempted to head-butt him he was arrested. On his way to custody in a police vehicle he kicked out at the driver and in the station he urinated in a cell.
A solicitor representing the defendant said he had moved to Gilford to gain some independence but had been subjected to a number of assaults.
The case was adjoured until June 16 for a pre-sentence report.
