The Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Darryn Causby, would like to invite everyone to the lighting of a beacon to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
The beacon will be lit at Craigavon Lakes on Friday (8 May) - just as over a hundred more are set alight across the UK. A bugler will call the crowd to attention before the Lord Mayor performs the honour at 9:30pm.
“This VE Day is really a celebaration of peace and is a time to remember and pay tribute to all of those who played their part in World War II, where so many lost their lives,” Lord Mayor Darryn Causby commented.
“I have invited representatives from each of the Royal British Legion Branches across our new borough - along with a number of veterans - to this event, however if the public want to see the beacon being lit, please park at the Craigavon Watersports Centre to walk round the side of the lake to the beacon site.”
Banbridge Old Town Hall and Craigavon Civic Centre - among others - will be lit up in red to mark the occasion.
