Dairine McCaughley from Lurgan, a 16-year old pupil of St Ronan’s College, is to perform as Sandy in Moyraverty Arts and Drama Society’s big summer musical Grease.
Show producer Kieran Corr said: “Dairine is a bundle of talent who has established herself as an accomplished singer and actor for MADS. She will share the role with Portadown Teenager Zoe Managh.
“Previous shows include Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, and she was fabulous as Cosette in Les Miserables School Edition, Ursula in The Little Mermaid and Maria in West Side Story.
“Dairine is studying for her diploma in Musical Theatre, Grade 8 Classical Singing, Grade 5 in Piano/Violin. This is a busy summer for Dairine who will perform as Gribblebone in Cats at the SSE Arena this weekend and she is also in Oklahoma. Dairine is really looking forward to performing as Sandy and this young lady certainly has a bright future ahead of her.”
Mr Corr added: “Ethan Lawlor will join Dairine on stage and will perform in the lead role of Danny Zuko. Ethan is 19 years old and is a former pupil of Lismore Comprehensive and has a Diploma in Musical Theatre.
“He has performed in loads of shows for MADS and is one of our top male performers with loads of experience. Previous shows include Glee 2, Footloose, Chad in High School Musical, Friedrich in The Sound of Music, Ratcliffe in Pocahontas, Doody in Grease, Ubaldo Piangi in The Phantom of the Opera, Triton in The LIttle Mermaid, Javert in Les Miserables School Editon and as Philippe in Beauty and the Beast.
“Ethan will be performing as Magaldi in Evita for the Fetch Theatre Company at The Mac in Belfast this weekend. He has performed in Her Majesty’s Theatre in London with West End Stage School and has won Craigavon Has Got Talent.
“Ethan is the lead guy in Grease and to follow this up he will also perform as Drew in Rock of Ages in February next year. Tickets now on sale for Grease from Print Business Supplies Lurgan, Greenes Nisa Local Brownlow and Winnies Newsagents in Portadown. Grease will run from the 15th to the 18th September at Portadown Town Hall Theatre.
MADS! will also be hosting its annual musical theatre summer scheme from Monday 15th August to Friday 19th August with a showcase performance taking place on Saturday 20th August at 3pm in Lurgan Town Hall. The summer scheme is for 5 to 14 years old and will be at our unit at Moyraverty beside St Brendan’s Primary School. It will run from 10am to 4pm each day and new and old members are welcome.
