Man and woman taken to hospital after three vehicle crash

Two people have been taken to hospital after a serious three vehicle crash this morning.

It is understood a car and two lorries were involved in the collision on the Dobbin Road, Portadown.

A man was cut from a car by firefighters. Both he and a woman were taken to hospital.

The road had been closed as the authorities dealt with the removal of two lorries requiring heaving lifting gear.

However the PSNI said this afternoon: "The Dobbin Road has now reopened following an earlier road traffic collision."

The NI Fire and Rescue Service said it was tasked to the scene at 10.34 this morning sending two appliances from Portadown and one from Lurgan.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving three vehicles, including a car in a ditch on Dobbin Road in Portadown.

"Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment and ladders to rescue a male casualty from the car.

"Another female casualty was out of her vehicle when Firefighters arrived.

"Both casualties were transferred to the care of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.

"The incident was dealt with by 12.12pm."

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it despatched two Emergency crews to the scene.

A spokesperson said: "Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, two people were transported separately, by Ambulance to the Craigavon Area Hospital."

DUP MLA William Irwin said he said he had spoken to the PSNI and said two lorries were involved in the three vehicle crash.

He said police informed him that the emergency services needed heavy lifting equipment to removed the vehicles from the scene.
