The man whose body was found in Lurgan yesterday (Friday) has been named locally.

He was Stewart Agnew and was in his early 20s.

His body was discovered by a member of Lurgan Park staff on Friday morning close to the Avenue Road entrance.

The park is still closed to the public as the police investigation continues. At this stage they are treating the death as suspicious.

Police had no further updates to give on that investigation on Saturday morning (January 9).

Local councillor Carla Lockhart praised the actions of park staff on the discovery of the body.

They had the park cleared and closed within five minutes of the tragic discovery.

Cllr Lockhart said: “I want to commend our Park staff in dealing with this situation and our thoughts are with them having to deal with such a tragedy.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased man’s family. This tragedy will rock the Lurgan community.”

The park will remain closed until further notice but, the ‘MAIL’ understands, it may reopen later this afternoon (dependent on progress of the ongoing investigation).
