The court heard that at 10.30pm police saw a jeep travelling at a high speed..

Police followed the vehicle and it reached a speed of 95mph. The defendant’s wife and young children were in the car. Kennedy had just picked them up from Dublin airport.

A barrister saidKennedy had a record which was of some vintage and there were no points on his licence.

He added that when he was stopped Kennedy had said he was probably driving at close to 100mph.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said it was a pretty high speed but she would take into account his lack of a previous record.
