The Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Carla Lockhart, is the busiest Mayor to date, attending over 750 events and meeting an estimated 300,000 people.
Carla, who is the youngest ever Craigavon Mayor, pledged at the beginning of the year to represent the whole community and to reach out to as many people as possible.
With the use of both the traditional media and social media she has succeeded to date.
“I want to thank everyone who I’ve met this year for making me so welcome,” she said. “I’ve promoted Craigavon far and wide, but most of all have promoted Craigavon people. Craigavon is a great borough and I’m delighted to have represented it throughout the year.”
Carla has been in rally cars, horse drawn carriages, aeroplanes, tractors and bin lorries, refusing a mayoral car and preferring to use her mini to go to events and meetings.
She regularly tweets and uses Facebook to engage with young people - check out her facebook at www.facebook/carlalockhart with over 2,500 friends - as well as taking part in events specifically for young people including taking part in a flash mob, a video to secure an artificial cow, to officially opening youth clubs, to visiting Lurgan hockey club, Portadown mini rugby club, Lurgan Rugby Club and local primary schools.
She has lifted bins with council staff, met loads of people and no less than nine Ministers including the First Minister Peter Robinson, Diane Dodds MEP, Danny Kennedy, Edwin Poots, Nelson McCausland, Sammy Wilson, Arlene Forster, John O’ Dowd and Carál NΊ ChulÍn.
She has raised over £10,000 for charity - Tiny Life, the ABF soldiers charity and Care in Crisis.
She is also very interested in women’s issues, attending Women in Business events, International Women’s Day and has campaigned against human trafficking.
Carla has been a very busy lady and one who has really pushed Craigavon and all it offers both locally and internationally - visiting La Grange in USA - and gaining many friends world and borough wide.
