John Francis Dillon, Markville, Bleary, admitted last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court possession of fireworks without a licence on October 28 last year.He was fined £120.

The court heard that police stopped the defendant in a car on the Old Portadown Road in Lurgan and assorted fireworks were found in the car’s boot.

Dillon told police he did not have a licence but bought them in good faith. He attended at the police station two days later having obtained a licence.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said that his client had been informed by the proprietor where he had bought the fireworks that his certificate covered everyone who bought fireworks from him.

He added that because of this Dillon did not purchase a licence but when he was stopped he went out and bought a licence.
