Lurgan Musical Society raised £1,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association during their recent Summer Concert in Lurgan Town Hall and other events.

The concert was a huge success and the audience were once again extremely generous as they donated to Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The money raised was enhanced with a number of donations received since January. As a result of a wonderful concert given by Lurgan Musical Society in Queen Street Methodist Church in March, £250 was donated to the special cause. A number of other donations were received from members of the audience who could not attend the concert.

Lurgan Musical Society are deeply indebted to the generosity of the audience and those who gave donations so generously. They also added to the figure and so presented a cheque for £1,000 which shall be put to good use by the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Lurgan Town Hall was once again filled to capacity for the society’s summer concert, and the audience were treated to a wonderful varied programme of solos, duets and choruses taken from the world of the Musical as well as popular favourites and a toe-tapping Gospel selection.

The musical society was once again accompanied by a wonderful orchestra who provided accompaniments arranged by Musical Director, Michelle Harte. Orchestra members were Colette Harte-Lavery, Sarah McStay, Orla Rice, Justyna Czerny, Alice Mc Quade, Cormac Brophy and David Murphy. Mr Ron Moore provided wonderful rhythmic accompaniments on the drums.

With choreography provided by Marita Brophy, the children once again took part in many numbers throughout the evening. They added wonderful dance routines to songs such as ‘The Black Hills of Dakota’, and ’76 Trombones’. Aoife Brophy, Enya Brophy, Aoife Greene, Mary-Kate Moore and Cara McSherry once again proved that they are young stars of the future. Kathleen Headley and Rachel Gregson added a special sparkle to the evening as they danced the Can-Can from Calamity Jane.

Friends and family donated many wonderful prizes for the raffle and a number of special helpers assisted with serving refreshments during the interval.

Lurgan Musical Society shall be taking a break for the summer, rehearsals will resume in September as they prepare for their annual Christmas Concert.
