A spokesperson for Henderson Retail said all staff affected, 11 in total, have been redeployed to positions at Eurospar on the Brownstown Road and a Spar in Banbridge, both owned by Henderson’s.

They said all staff had been informed of the closure on Christmas Eve.

And they also revealed that the CostCutter shop, located in Chalet Stores (opposite the Armagh Road Spar), will re-brand to a Spar store.

It will continue to be owned and run by the current owners, the McKeown family.

The spokesperson added the re-branding would bring “further employment opportunities and services to the town from January 2017”.
