Local runners looking for a reason to get fit this year are being urged to sign up for the Lurgan Park 5K and 10K Fun Runs which are being held on Sunday, March 1, at 10am in aid of the Southern Area Hospice Services.
This is the second year of this event after a successful inaugural run took place in February 2014.
David Wilson, a teacher in St Michael’s Grammar school, who helps organise the event said: “We were delighted with the response last time when over 220 local runners took part.
“The event raised over £4,000 from runner donations and the support of many local businesses.
“Lurgan Park is a great setting for the run and the distances are ideal for experienced runners preparing for longer distances, runners looking to get fit or absolute beginners who are just getting into running. Indeed if anyone wants to walk the 5k or 10k distances that would be great too.
“We have been working with Hospice Volunteers again to make sure the event is a success and also the council has been great in allowing us to use their facilities again.
“We are hoping for another good turnout on the day.”
Southern Area Hospice provides their service across the entire Southern Health Board, including Newry & Mourne, Craigavon, Banbridge, Portadown, Armagh and Dungannon.
With a fundraising target of £2.2 million for 2012, SAHS need to raise over £250 every single hour to help people affected by terminal illness in Southern Board Area.
The main sponsor of the event is CRASH Services.
