Police invite students on weekend '˜ride along'

Craigavon PSNI have made local A level students an offer of a ride along with them to help them decide on a possible career with the police.

The move comes off the back of a ride along conducted by Bangor PSNI although our local ‘peelers’ said: “We always thought we fell short on the ‘Ice cream parlours per capita’ ratio required for such a venture. Not any more.”

With the A level results very much in mind and with young people deciding on future careers Craigavon’s ‘laughing policeman’ said: “After doing my best Mrs Doyle impression to the Superintendent, ‘Go-wan, go-wan, go-wan...’ he gave in! So ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to announce our PSNI Craigavon Ride Along!”

He added: “This ride along is only open to those who got A level results this week. Whether you’re currently considering a career with ourselves or not, come and have a look at what it’s really like.

“To enter, we want to know how much craic you are, and what you will bring to the E section dynamic. I mean, we’re going to be in a car with you for several hours so... well negative banter just won’t cut it! Think of it as interview practice.”

Details on how to enter were posted on the Craigavon PSNI facebook page with the ride along taking place on the weekend of August 27-28.

And giving a hint of their... ahem... policing priorities the poster advised, “you must respect the ancient rule - ‘newbie brings buns’.”

And they added: “If this one goes well, there will be more open to anyone so fear not if you’re not eligible this time round.”
