Posting on the Craigavon PSNI Facebook page a police spokesperson revealed they had spotted 68 people and 25 cars along the Newry canal towpath between Portadown and Scarva.

They said: “Some information for thought, forget for a minute if the law were to be applied to this and ask yourself is this in the spirit of this emergency we are all going through.

“We have just travelled the Newry canal towpath from Portadown to Scarva. Between Portadown and Mullahead in the short time we were on that stretch there were 68 people and 25 cars

“Now the towpath allows that everyone was mostly two meters apart but it’s not so long a stretch and this represents 68 potential strangers passing each other on a narrow path in a 60 minute period touching gates, railings, seats and so on, potentially spreading infection. 68 people x 12 hours a day x 7 days a week.

“This is not a holiday. #StayAtHomeSaveLives”
