Portadown branch of Hughes Insurance to stay open

The Portadown branch of Hughes Insurance is to remain open, despite plans to close six other branches across the province.

The restructuring was announced today (Thursday).

The town office is one of five which will not only stay open but has been “earmarked for growth”. The others are Coleraine, Derry, Glengormley and Belfast.

According to a company spokesperson these branches “will maintain a strong regional presence for the brand in key regional locations alongside company headquarters in Newtownards”.

The branches closing are in Ballymena, Ballynahinch, Lisburn, Magherafelt, Newry and Omagh. The company pointed to a decline in branch footfall, saying that 90 per cent of business is now conducted online or on the phone.
