Two local voluntary groups have received Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service.
They are North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club which organises the annual Tandragee 100 National Motorcycle Road Race and Markethill-based County Armagh Community Development (CACD), which works primarily with the unionist community to provide support, training and advice.
Lord Mayor, Councillor Darryn Causby said, “I’m absolutely delighted to see that no less than two of the voluntary groups in our borough are winners of the Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service 2016.
“Both these groups are very worthy winners. What a recognition for them! This has been likened to the MBE for volunteer groups. My hearty congratulations to both groups.”
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.
