Restraining order is imposed after sending text messages

A Lurgan man was made the subject of a restraining order when he appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Twenty-one-year-old Michael Redmond Doran, Castle Lane, Lurgan, admitted breaching a non molestation order on December 25 last year.

For the offence he was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

A two year restraining order was also imposed preventing the defendant from pestering, harassing or intimidating the injured party.

The court heard that the injured party, the defendant’s former partner, reported to police that he had sent her text messages.

She felt the messages were pestering her. The defendant was arrested on December 27.

He said he had been drinking and may well have contacted her but could not remember.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said there was nothing of a sinister nature in the messages.

He added that Doran now accepted the relationship between him and his former partner had ended.
