St Mary’s Aghagallon ballad group were crowned All Ireland Champions in the All Ireland Final of Scor. This is the second time that the ballad group have been awarded an All Ireland title, last winning the competition in 1999.
Pat McKenna, Chairman of St Mary’s GAC, Aghagallon said: “I am very proud of Adrian, Bronagh, Caitriona, Joe and Una and all that they have achieved in the All Ireland Scor Final. This is a massive achievement for the ballad group and St. Mary’s and we are all thrilled that after a number of years, the ballad group have been recognised for their talent.”
Scor is very big at the Aghagallon club and is an important part of the fabric of the local community. St. Mary’s ballad group have participated in a number of All Ireland Finals and are delighted in winning this prestigious title this year.
Agnes Hannon, who was the driving force behind Scor within Aghagallon, recently died. The win is seen as a fitting tribute to Mrs Hannon for all that she done over the years in promoting Scor in the area.
Pat McKenna said: “Unfortunately I was not in Dublin for the final as we were hosting an under 14 tournament at the time, but as the news filtered through that the ballad group had won none of us could contain our delight with the great news.”
