Anne Acheson pioneered the use of papier-mâché to make the splint as we know it today.

Her story is included in the publication, ‘For Valour’, along with two other local heroes - Private Tommy Chambers from Armagh and Private Thomas Hughes from Monaghan.

Private Hughes was awarded the Victoria Cross, the Army’s highest honour, and Tommy Chambers, although dying on the first day of battle, provided an insightful account of war in his diary.

The project has been developed by Armagh County Museum, Craigavon Museum Services and Monaghan County Museum, with the aim of appealing to young readers.
